Introduction, Educational Standards, and Additional Resources

These educational resources introduce K-5 educators and students to the inspiring life story of Renee Gross, the immigrant experience in New York City, and the art made by women artists in the Renee & Chaim Gross Foundation’s collection.

Each of the six thematic resources has been designed to be adaptable and includes:

• a PowerPoint slideshow of images with looking and discussion prompts

• a PDF including learning objectives; classroom activity ideas related to art, language arts, math, social studies, and STEM; and resources for further extension such as books and websites

We invite you to use whatever parts of these resources best fit your needs. You may find that just sharing one or two slides with students and having a discussion about them is enough. Or, you may want to go through a slideshow and follow up with a suggested activity or book. Take what you need, and thank you for sharing these stories and ideas with your students.

This project is generously supported by a grant from the Dorothy C. Radgowski Learning Through Women’s Achievement in the Arts Grant, a joint effort of Where Women Made History (WWMH), and Historic Artists’ Homes & Studios (HAHS), both programs of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
