Figure/Ground explores variations on the traditional landscape found in the Foundation's historic collection. As a primarily figurative artist, Chaim Gross had a unique view of landscapes in his own work and in his collection. The exhibition explores themes of nature as a guiding form, abstraction versus naturalism, how artists found inspiration through travel, Surrealism, and notions of the sublime. Watercolors and drawings by Gross show a body of work that is not often exhibited due to light sensitivity, but captures the range of his two-dimensional work. The exhibition includes over 40 works by 25 artists.
